Several laboratory techniques have been adopted for detection of canine parvovirus (CPV) but the big question has been on their accuracy, speed, cost and availability. This study was meant to compare conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and haemagglutination (HA) test in the detection of CPV-2. PCR targeted the VP2 gene while HA targeted the haemagglutinin all in the virus. 113 samples comprising 80 rectal swabs and 33 necropsy tissues from dogs showing symptoms that were suggestive of parvovirus enteritis were collected from veterinary clinics in Jos. The often-high mortality and morbidity rates of surgical site infections are the concern of most health practitioners including administrators globally. The need to know the bacterial agents responsible and their treatability to common antibiotics was the main thrust of this study. Two hundred surgical site swabs were collected from two hospitals and investigated. The swabs were cultured and organisms identified according to standard procedures. A prevalence rate of 31.5% was obtained from the surgical sites investigated. Direct gram staining gave a greater recovery rate of incriminated organisms than cultural methods. Canine parvovirus (CPV) remains the most significant viral cause of enteritis in puppies over the age of two months. This study was meant to detect the virus by targeting the VP2 gene, a 583 bp gene (nucleotide 4003 to 4585) of the capsid protein. The detection of the virus was carried out by conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) on one hundred and nine samples. This study was designed to estimate the prevalence and speciation of hookworm in Plateau State. 592
faecal samples were collected from patients with abdominal discomfort from six health facilities in the
state and examined for presence of parasitic eggs or cysts. Among them, 147 (24.8%) were positive for
at least one parasitic egg or cyst, whereas 39 (6.6%) had hookworm eggs alone. Hookworm was found
in all the localities. Langtang South had the highest prevalence (1.5%), while Shendam had the lowest
